Lenton was born on 18 September 1847 in , Madison County, Virginia. He was the son of Lemuel Smith Yager and Mariah Louisa (Taylor) Yager.^[1][2]

When Lenton was 29 he married on 1 March 1877 in Malta Bend, Saline, Missouri.^[3][2][4]

Lenton died at the age of 79 on 20 November 1926 in Marshall, Saline, Missouri.^[2]
