Biography

Moses Yarborough was born about 1743.[citation needed]

Moses Yarborough received several land grants in South Carolina. A survey was certified the 5th of February 1768, and granted on the 15th of July 1768 for 250 acres, situate in Berkly County on Little River, bounded on Richard Robins's, Wm. McLaughlen's...Samuel Caldwell's, and William Bayly's lands.[1] On the 4th of September 1770 a survey was certified, and granted on the 19th of September 1770 for a plantation or tract of land containing 100 acres situate in Craven County on the North side of Broad River, on a branch thereof called Rickey Branch bounding on John Robuck's land all other sides by vacant land.[2]

Moses Yarbrough and Ann his wife entered into an indenture of lease and release on the 9th and 10th day of March 1769 with Mackerness Goode of Ninety-six District conveying all that plantation or tract of land containing 250 acres on Little River granted to Moses Yarborough on the 15th day of July 1768 to Mackerness Goode.[3]

According to the witness to the Last Will and Testament of Moses Yarbrough late of St. Marks Parish in Craven County, South Carolina, Moses "departed this Life only a few hours after he had thus declared himself being the Second day of October [1772] at or near thereof the Clock in the morning and by us the third day of the same month committed to writing as is here set forth."[4] Moses made special bequests to:

  • wife Frances Yarborough...oldest child Elizabeth Yarborough shall come of age...my three children by my former wife until the may come of age or are married...Jilson my youngest son born of her body and Elizabeth Yarborough, Ann Yarborough, and William Yarborough three children I had by another wife...to William Moore and George Moore two sons of my wife Frances by another husband.[4]
