Biography

2nd Lieutenant John Yarbrough served in the United States Army in World War I
Service started: 5 August 1917

Service ended: 21 February 1919

John was born in 1889. He was the son of Joseph Yarbrough and Mary Hollingsworth.

In 1909, he married Margaret A. Stamper in Oklahoma. The couple had a daughter named Meryl Elizabeth Yarbrough. By 1917, the couple was divorced and he was working for Western Union as a Telegraph Operator in Houston, Texas.

During WWI, Lieutenant John Welch Yarbrough served in the 116th Signal Batallion and served overseas from July 18, 1918 - February 13, 1919 after being stationed at Camp Bowie, Texas; Camp Mills, New York; Camp Dix, New Jersey. Yarbrough was also in the American Expeditionary Forces.

After WWI, John suffered from Pulmonary Tuberculosis and was treated at a sanitorium.

In 1927, he married Lois Pettigrew in Bandera, Texas.

At the age of 78, John passed away in 1968 and is buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas. At the time of his death, he was a Telegraph Operator for the railroad.
