Dear Rick & Karen:

Previously a memo from Karen indicated possibly five (5) additional issue to
this line more than what was indicated in HHY partial genealogy based on an
1850 listing. It would appear that the Sharpless Genealogy has a few extra
issue for one child died in 1850 and others may have been married and thusly
not included in the overall account.

Amos Yarnall, born in Ohio, 21 April 1813, Lenni, Delaware Co., Pa. 12 September 1883, married 1832
Sarah Long, born Brandywine, Chester County, 5 January 1811, daughter of Joseph Long and Jane Henderson.
Jane previously resided at Lenni and Amos was a finisher and owned some property there. Their
issue:

Jesse, b. Philadelphia 3 June 1833, married Mary L. Tyler, living previously
in Pittsburgh, Pa. and had several children.
Amos, b. 22 February 1835, d. 29 May 1861, at Lima, Delaware Co., Pa., married Rachel McClay and had one child who died in 1860/1.
Mary Jane, b. 30 September, d. 23 April 1863, married E. B. Garrett, of Willistown, and had Sarah Jane, Elijah, and one who died young.
Larcy DeGrace, b. 9 April 1839, married 1st Samuel Polin, 2nd George Snyder.
Mahalaleel, b. 3 February 1841, died at Lenni 21 January 1864 unmarried.
Hannah A., b. 1 February 1845, died Philadelphia 21 January 1850.
George, b. 26 July 1847, m. 1864 then living in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Kate, b. 4 June 1851, married David H. McClurg.
Thomas, b. Cecil Co., Md. 16 February 1853, d. Lenni 21 July 1854.
John A., b. 6 July 1854, married Elizabeth A. Batty.

Hope these will connect finally connect some missing branches.

Warmest regards, Lin.

Lin,
Concerning this line, and the son Jesse, you wrote:
Jesse, b. Philadelphia 3 June 1833, married Mary L. Tyler, living previously
in Pittsburgh, Pa. and had several children.
To me, that location of Pittsburgh, PA was the best clue. I find Jesse in the 1860 census thus:

Alleghany County, PENN, 5th Ward Pittsburgh, pg 711.

J. Yarnall, 27, m, machinist, REF_NOTES, , PA

[ boarder ]

In the next entry, we have what seems to be that same Jesse in 1870, based on being in
Pittsburgh and a wife named Mary (per Sharpless). But there is a slight problem of Jesse's age
in the census. He should be 37 y.o., not age 25. I do not have this census family connected
anywhere.

Alleghany County, PENN, 10th Ward Pittsburgh, pg 296.

Jesse Yarnell, 25, m, Supervisor Penn. R.R., REF_NOTES, 0, PA

Mary, 23, f, England ( mother & father foreign born )

Eugene B., 3, m, PA (mother foreign born )

John A., 2, m, PA (mother foreign born )

Joseph T., 7/12, m, PA, born in October (mother foreign born )

Margaret WALKIN, 13, f, domestic servant, REF_NOTES, 0, Ireland

( father & mother foreign born )

[ census taken 8/11/1870 ]

I do not find Jesse & Mary in the 1880 census. But here is that same Mary in 1900, husband
presumably being dead by then:

ALLEGHANY, Pittsburgh, Downing St., 162-6

Mary L. Yarnall, head, f, Feb 1844, 56, England

John A., son, Mar 1870, 30, PA

Joseph T., son, Feb 1871, 29, PA

Jessie, son, Apr 1872, 28, PA

Percy F., son, May 1878, 22, PA

Edna R., dau, Apr 1880, 20, PA

Here is the 1900 census entry for Eugene Yarnall, listed with Jesse in 1870:

ALLEGHENY, Pittsburg, 7045 Idlewild St., 260-5

Eugene Yarnall, head, Sep 1865, 34, PA

Sarah E., wife, Jan 1869, 31, PA

Harriet F., dau, May 1891, 9, PA

Here is the above Mary in the 1910 Soundex:

ALLEGHENY, Crafton, 47-304

Mary Yarnell, 66, born: England

[mother-in-law of & living with Richard DONALDSON]

I'll need to look at the original census, of course, but Mr. Donaldson is likely the husband of
Mary's daughter Edna.

And here are two of Mary's sons in 1910 Soundex:

ALLEGHENY, Pittsburgh, 430-224

Eugene B. Yarnall, head, 43, PA

Sarah E., wife, 40, PA

Joseph T., brother, 40, PA

Dear Karen:

Referring to your question of January 21st regarding the relationship of the
subject. Amos Yarnall was the son of Amos Yarnall, Sr. and Larcy DeGrace
Beaumont as you had so captioned. Amos, the younger, had two siblings Jane,
twin to Amos &
Mahalalel. The spelling of Mahalalel I must assume is the correct, it coming
from the Bible, book of Genesis. I have traced Mahalalel from 1863 to 1888
using the Philadelphia Directory where his studio was located, although he
was a resident of Phoenixville, Pa. along with my clan. The Philadelphia
Directory has his forename spelled five different ways and unless someone
would like those spellings I'll defer same. Mahalalel is buried in Morris
Cemetery along with many of my family members and it will be my pleasure in
the days ahead to give you what I have on Jane and Mahalalel, siblings to
Amos, Jr.

Regards, Lin.
