Joshua Yates was born in 1800 in Wythe, Virginia, to Sarah (unknown maiden name), age 25, and Benjamin Thomas Yates, age 28.
He married Margaret Ghent in Ohio. They had seven children in 21 years.  In August 1820, he is living in Lee County, Virginia, with five people in his household.  By 1830, they had moved to Lawrence County, Kentucky. 
He died in 1842 at the age of 42.
