Name is likely Alexander Lemuel Yates. His name is sometimes seen as Lewis. My grandmother Billie Sue Adkins told me Lemuel was his name but census records from 1900 appear to indicate "A. Lewis Yates" - it can be read both ways. Records from Newbern, TN where he died indicate the death of 'Lem Yates' in 1904 - see below. Some early research I did said Alexander was his first name but I cannot find a source for that information. He is buried in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Newbern, TN. He and Nancy Woodruff were married 5 January 1888.

Records from Newbern, TN public library indicate the death of Lem Yates in August 1904 - further indication that his name was Lemuel.
