HENRY YATES, ESQ., (grandson of Elisabeth Wemple) well known as the brother of the late Governor YATES, JOHN B. YATES, and Professor YATES of Union College, and as State Senator from the old Middle District from 1812 to 1820, expired at his residence in Albany on Monday morning, in the eighty-fourth year of his age. Mr. YATES was a native of Schenectady, but since his retirement from business, several years ago, has resided in the old Yates Mansion in Albany. During the last years of his life, Mr. YATES had been in a good degree helpless under a paralytic affection, which, though afflicting, did not confine him to his house. Until within a day or two before his death, he was abroad in his carriage. Few of his contemporaries in public life survive him, and none, we believe, of the family of his father, CHRISTOPHER YATES, of revolutionary memory. At an early-age, the deceased commenced the practice of law in Schenectady, and continued in the active duties of his profession until 1826. About the year 1812, he was elected to the State Senate, and by reelection served in that station eight years. He was a member of the Convention of 1821, which framed the second State Constitution, and for many years held the office of Mayor of the city of Schenectady. During his Senatorial term, he was one of the Council of Appointment, an active member of that body, and was closely identified with the history and progress of the State at that period. --Albany Argus.
