It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with John:

PS: the Dowling family tree on Geneanet ( http://gw.geneanet.org/tdowling?lang=en&pz=timothy+michael&nz=dowling&ocz=0&p=hannah&n=phillips&oc=16 ) connects them via a third child, Benjamin b. 1782 who also moved to Leeds, Ontario. There, Hannah's parents-in-law match those of Yeats-28, her son married in Leeds, and she died in Ontario.

This is likely the same person as Yates-3869 (see unmerged match). This guy has details backwards (parents, birth record, siblings) and one child, while Yates-3869 only has details forward (a different child, gravestones, etc.). What they have in common is a spouse, Hannah Phillips.

There definitely is a couple, John and Hannah Yates, buried in Plum Garden, Ontario. This area of Ontario was "given" to the United Empire Loyalists (refugees) who fled the American Revolution in the 1770s; many if not most there came from the US.

There is a discrepancy in the birth years, but Yates-3869 birth is unproven (from Find-A-Grave and ancestry.com trees only) so I suspect it's wrong, as the Yeats-28 birth is solid.
