Biography

Mary Yates was born about 1806 in Astbury, Cheshire. She married John Hughes, a labourer on 8 March 1824 in Astbury[1]

1841 Census

Mary, aged 36 was living in Wall Hill lane, Astbury, Cheshire with her husband, John Hughes (recorded as Joseph), an agricultural labourer, aged 36 and children: Hannah Hughes 13, John Hughes 13 and Mary Hughes 7, Joseph Hughes 9 and Elizabeth Hughes 5. [2]

1851 Census

Mary, aged 47 was living in Wall Hill lane, Newbold, Astbury, Cheshire with her husband, John Hughes, a farmer, aged 47 and children: Thomas Hughes 26, Elizth Hughes 14 and George Hughes 10. Her son William, a labourer, aged 24 was living next door with his wife and son.[3]

1861 Census

Mary, aged 57, living in Wall Hill, Newbold Astbury, Cheshire, with her husband, John, a farmer, aged 57, son George, an agricultural labourer, aged 20 and grandson, Henry Hughes, aged 5.[4]

1871 Census

Mary, aged 66 was living in Wall Hill, Newbold Astbury, Cheshire with her husband John, a retired farmer, aged 67. They were living next door to their son, George, a farmer, aged 30.[5]
