Biography

James was born in 1919. He is the son of James Yates and Elizabeth Jenkins. According to the 1920 US Census, he was born in Tennessee, so presumably his mother returned there not long after her husband died.

In 1944 he was in Private in the Army, at Camp Chafee, Arkansas, as we can see by his letter home to his Uncle Fred Yates.
