Biography

(There are several John Yates' who lived in the Kansas City, Missouri area in the late 19th / early 20th century. This John is John Richard son of Weldon Yates, although sometimes in the newspapers, his middle initial is "H".)

John was born in 1890 to Weldon D. and Margaret C Williams Yates. He was the second of nine children.

John served in the Missouri National Guard, Company B Second Regiment, when he was 17, volunteering on 02 May 1907 through 15 Sep 1909.

He married Clora M. Shouse on 06 Oct 1914. They had four children, prior to divorcing before 1940 - John W (1916-1944), Charles M. (1919-2004), Betty Jean (1921-1936), and Vaunceil (1926-2015).

John's death occurred under mysterious circumstances. He was a heavy drinker, but he had a subdural hematoma with a brain hemorrhage caused by external violence. He died 10 Jun 1942 - the day before his 52nd birthday.
