Martha Yates aka Yeats was born around about 1812. She is not to be confused with Martha Yates the daughter of Henry and Jane Yates. That poor child Martha died within twelve months of her baptism.
There is a Martha Yeats the daughter of Jacob and Ann Yeats a labourer, and that Martha was baptised 20th August 1815 at Pewsey Wiltshire England UK. This baptism seems a close fit but more research is needed before we can claim her as our Martha. There is a family tree published on My Heritage, which gives Martha’s birthday as 19th September 1812 at Pewsey. It is possibly the same Martha, the daughter of Jacob and Ann baptised 1815.
Her birth aside for one moment so we can concentrate on her later life. We know that she married David Lovelock, and that marriage was recorded 3rd quarter 1839 in the Pewsey District of Wiltshire England UK. Martha had at least nine children. The first was born before she married David. That child was Stephen Coward Yates born in 1823, and he was baptised 27th January 1823 Easton near Devizes Wiltshire England. As yet I have no idea whom the father was. The middle name may be a clue as to the father’s surname. But as yet I have not fully researched the children of Martha and David.
We know that Martha and David went on to have at least eight children from 1839 through to 1850. These being David Jnr (b 1839) Henry (b 1839) John (b 1841 – 1841) William (b 1843) George (b 1845 – 1846) (Thomas 1845 – 1851) Elizabeth (b 1846 - 1915) and Sarah Ann (b 1850 – 1851. After the death of her first husband David Lovelock in 1849, Martha married Henry Keele on the 9th October 1855 at Pewsey District of Wiltshire England. Her marriage to Henry was short as she died in 1858 at Netheravon Wiltshire.
Martha Keill (aka Keele) died aged 46 years of age and was buried 18th June 1858 at Netheravon Wiltshire England UK
Going back to 1832. There is also a possibility that our Martha was discharged from Salisbury Infirmary 10th March 1832. The transcription does not give too much detail other than Martha was cured of whatever she was suffering from at the time. But before this can be taken to be our Martha, the matter needs a bit more research.
