TUSCALOOSA Alsie Waymon Yates, age 64, of Tuscaloosa, died May 21, 2011, at Northport Medical Center-DCH. Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Daisy Yates, and his brothers, Orwood and Travis Yates. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean; his son, Steven D. Yates of McCalla; and his sister, Brenda Kircharr (Junior) of Brent. Waymon grew up in Bibb County, Alabama and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Betty Jean Montz on November 28, 1969. They owned and operated Tuscaloosa Motor Parts for most of the past 39 years. He was a devoted husband and father. Pallbearers will be Ricky Kircharr, Frank Lavender, Robert McBride, Marcus Montz, Dennis Smith, and Richard White. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Joanne Rossman and the wonderful staff of the Cancer Care Center of Tuscaloosa, the staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, especially Tiffany and Teresa, all of the customers and friends of Tuscaloosa Motor Parts, and the many friends and loved ones who helped Waymon, Jean, and Steven through the past difficult months.
