Sarah was born 29 September 1863 in Onouli, Hawaii, the daughter of John Peel Yates and Mary Ann Hand.
Sarah married John Cooper Searle on 4 September 1886 in Kona, Hawaii. They were the parents of ten children: Elizabeth; John; Sauel "Kamuela"; Edward; Melville; Sarah; jessica; Clarence; Theodore "Pump"; and Gertrude.
Sarah on 22 September 1952 at the age of 89, in Oakland, California.
Funeral services were held this morning in the chapel of the Rose Hill Cemetery, Whittier, Calif., for Mrs. Sarah A. Y. Searle, who recently visited her family in California and who died unexpectedly Monday in Berkeley.
Mrs. Searle would have been 89 on the 29th of September. She was a kamaaina whose parents, Capt. and Mrs. John Peel Yates, were among the first settlers in Kona, Hawaii.
Surviving are the following sons and daughters: John C. Searle, Jr., Melvin C. Searle, Mrs. Frank Widomen and Mrs. C. WW. Smith, all of California; Edwin C. Searle of Hilo, Hawaii; Mrs. Ernest Morris and Theodore C. Searle, both of Honolulu. She is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives in California and Hawaii.
