Biography

George Cooper Yates was born in January of 1858 to Jerome Yates and Desdemona Yates of Wisconsin.[1]

On July 25, 1870, George was 12 years old and living with his parents and siblings in Medina, Dane County, Wisconsin.[2]

On June 10, 1880, George was 22 years old and living with his parents and younger sisters Lillian (20) and Maggie (14) in the town of Medina, Dane County, Wisconsin.[3]

He married Una Johnson in 1881.[4] The couple had several children, including:

  1. Desdemona Inez (1882-1967), d. unm.
  2. Dorothy "Dora" (1884-1938), m. Christian Olaf Schletty, Jr. (1881-1953)
  3. Jerome Wallace (1888-1941), m. Garda L. Gould (1893-1986)
  4. Ruth (1893-1973), m. Carter Delos Wilcox (1886-1959)
  5. George (1895-1968), m. Florence Maguire (1895-1970)

On June 3, 1895, George and Una, both 37 years old, were living with their five children in Dodge County, Minnesota.[5]

On June 1, 1900, George and Una, both 42 years old, were living on their farm in Wasioja Township, Dodge County, Minnesota, with their children Dessa (18), Dora (14), Jerome (10), Ruth (6) and George (3).[4]

On April 18, 1910, George (52) and Una (53) were living in Wasioja Township, Dodge County, Minnesota, with their children Dessa (28), Ruth (17) and George (14).[6]

On January 21, 1920, George (62) and Una (63) were living in Wasioja Township, Dodge County, Minnesota, with their daughter Desdemona Inez (37).[7]

Wife Una passed away on October 28, 1928.[8]

George passed away on May 28, 1932, in Wasioja Township, Dodge County.[1] He is buried in Wildwood Cemetery, Wasioja, Dodge County, Minnesota, USA.[1]
