Martha Patsey was born around 1813 when her parents, Thomas Yates and Phebe Combs, lived in Halifax, Virginia. In 1820, after the family had settled in White, Tennessee, they lived beside the farm of William Marlow, the presumed family of Nathaniel Marlow, who married Patsy.
Their marriage was filed in Rhea County in July, 1842, though they might have wed earlier in White County in the late 1830s before moving for a while to Rhea. Back in White Co in 1850, the census shows Nathaniel and Martha with 7 children, ages 0 to 11. Their household (name age): Nathaniel 44, Martha 37, Asa M 11, Thomas 9, George W 7, Henry V 6, Martha 4, Larkin T 3, Nathaniel 2/12. Nathaniel's birthplace was South Carolina, Martha Patsey's was Virginia, the children all from Tennessee.
Patsey Marlow was named in the will of her father, Thomas Yates (see Thomas Yates Image 3), written in 1850. Little more is known about Martha and Nathaniel.
