Sarah Ellen "Nellie" Yates,[1] daughter of John Yates and Sarah Blocker, was born in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana in 1883.[2]
According to family historian Juanita Gayer, "Aunt Nellie was a gentle, patient person, with a husky, throaty voice, which was very distinctive."[1]
She was living at home in St. Tammany Parish in 1900.[3]
In 1901 she married Glaris Spring. [4]
By 1910 they had moved to Washington Parish, Louisiana and had three children.[5]
They were counted there in 1920 with seven children.[6]
She died in Bogalusa, Washington Parish, Louisiana in 1924.[7]

Source for the formal name "Sarah Ellen" is found in Juanita's letter, which is the copied record of the old Yates family bible, but she was always called "Nellie."
