The Charge of Bigamy against the Hon. Major Yelverton. —On Monday evening the hon. Major Yelverton, of the Royal Artillery, who was apprehended and lodged in the Gallon gaol on Thursday evening, charged with bigamy, was liberated on bail. The amount of the security we understand, is £1000. The circumstances of this painful case have been for several months familiarly talked of in Edinburgh circles, and there is now no use in abstaining from mentioning them, so far as they are supposed to be known. It is understood that a considerable number of months ago, Major Yelverton (who is the second son of Lord Avonmore, an Irish Peer), went through the form of marriage with Miss Longworth, an Irish lady of respectable family, and some private fortune........[1][2][3][4][5][6]
The sisters of Major Yelverton are respectably, but by no means brilliantly, married. One, a Mrs. Goring, is in New Zealand, one is the wife of a Captain Hawes, another of James Walker, advocate in Edinburgh, a third of Mr. Ivons.[7]
