Thomas Yeomans ... [1]

Thomas Yeoman was born in the Parish of Saint Cuthberts, City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, on the 27/11/1828. His parents were John Yeoman and Margaret Jackson. By the 1841 Census he was living with his parents and four other brothers still in Saint Cuthberts. Father John (50) Occupation Shoemaker, Mother Margaret (45).

There is a mis-spelling of his name in the 1851 Census. Yeaman instead of Yeoman but it is known that this is the correct Thomas. He is with his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) and a daughter Elizabeth aged (1). They have moved to Roxburgh in the Scottish Borders and he is working as a Railway Carter. Son Thomas was believed to be born in 1852, but no record has yet been located.

Some time between the birth of son Thomas in 1852 and 1855 Thomas has died, again no record has been found. Betsy remarries a William Sawyers in 1855 and the marriage recorded her status "as previously married - widow. The 1861 Census Living in Roxburgh village are Betsy & William Sawyers with Thomas Yeoman (9) and Elizabeth Yeoman (11) along with John Sawyers (5) and Margaret Sawyers (3) months.

By the time Betsy died in 1902 she is recorded as Elizabeth Sawyers "previously Yeomans".

Some time Between 1861 Census and 1871 Census the surname Yeoman picked up an "S" to be recorded as Yeomans.
