Biography

Birth

Elmer H. York was born at Wilton, Maine, in September 1864, the son of James E. York and Keziah (Sanborn) York. His birth date is given in the 1900 Census,^[1] and his parents are named in the record of his second marriage.^[2] He was living with James and Keziah York at Wilton in 1870 at the age of 5^[3] and at Weld, Maine, in 1880 at the age of 15.^[4]

Marriages

1. Elmer H. York married Ellen S. Beedy. The birth record of Grace York at Phillips, Maine, in November 1893 names her parents as Elmer H. York and Ellen Beedy,^[5] and the marriage record of Gladys York in 1904 names her parents as Elmer H. York of Hartford, Maine, and Ellen Beede, deceased.^[6] Gladys was born in March 1890,^[1] which places the marriage date of Elmer York and Ellen Beedy no later than that date.
2. Elmer H. York, 31, of Hartford, Maine, married Luella J. Goding, 18, of Livermore, Maine, at Livermore on 7 Dec 1895.^[2] In 1900, they were living at Hartford, Maine,^[1] and by 1910 had moved to Canton, Maine.^[7]

Death

In 1920, Elmer H. York was living with his wife Luella and three of their sons at Canton, Maine.^[8] The gravestone of Elmer H. York at the Waters Hill Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, is inscribed with the dates 1864-1925.^[9]
