Petrus York was born before his baptism on May 30, 1756 in Kingston, Ulster, NY, USA. He is the son of Moses York and Maria Freer.
He married his wife Margriet Van Leuven on November 8, 1776 in Kingston. Together they had the following children:

He refused to sign the general association and was marked as such on June 9, 1775 when he lived in Hurley, Ulster County. When the American Revolution began, he enrolled as a private for the militia of Cantine's Regiment in the company of Captain Benjamin Kortreght, fighting alongside other revolutionaries and against the British. [citation needed]

Page 636 gives his name as Peter York, his wife's name as Mary Van Leuwen, their residence as Marbletown, and their date of marriage as November 8, 1776.
