Oliver B. York, b. 14 Sep 1823, was the fourth child of Nancy (Breed) York (abt.1798-1856) & John York (1796-1870)[1]. His birth location probably was in Brookfield (Madison County) where his birth family resided, or perhaps in nearby Columbus (Chenango County), New York [2].
He married Mar. 4, 1846, @ Brookfield, New York, Mary Lines (1821 - 1893). They had 5 children:
This family moved from Brookfield, N. Y., to Edmeston, N. Y., where Oliver held the office of Town Clerk for eight years. During the Civil War he was enrolling officer and Deputy Provost Marshal. After the war he was appointed Deputy for the Bureau of Military Statistics [3].
From 1870 onward, the family of Oliver B. York was again charted in Brookfield [4],[5],[6]. Among these records his occupation is listed as farmer.
At the 1900 census, Oliver (by then widowed) resided in Morris, New York, in the household of his daughter Grace and her husband, Oscar M. Hurlbutt [7].
Oliver B. York died 21 Apr 1905 @ Edmeston, New York. His grave is in Brookfield Rural Cemetery, Brookfield, Madison County, New York, USA [8].
