Biography

Peter York was born September 1, 1778 in New Paltz, Ulster, NY, USA. He was the son of Petrus York and Margriet Van Leuven.


He married first his wife Sarah Freer on October 17, 1801 in New Paltz. Together they had two children:

  1. Margaret York
  2. John York

Second, he married his wife Hester/Esther Simmons on August 7, 1808 in New Paltz. Together they had many children:

  1. Peter York
  2. Andrew Jackson York
  3. Hester Ann (York) Miller
  4. Abram Simmons York

Peter passed away about 1839.

Will

I, Peter York of the town of Wawarsing, County of Ulster and state of New York being of sound mind do hereby make and set forth this instrument my last will and testament. First I do hereby will give and bequeath to my son Peter P. one dollar, to my daughter Sally one dollar, and to the heirs of my daughter Margaret one dollar, and to Hatty Ann, William, Betsy, Catharine Maria, Jacob, and Andrew Jackson all my children I do hereby give will and bequeath all that ? ? part of my farm (now occupied by ?). ? and ? on the east side of the brook, running through my said farm near the house on the east and the said ? or part of my farm to be equally divided between my said children Hatty Ann, William, Betsy, Catharine Maria, Jacob, and Andrew Jackson as soon as ? ? of ? shall become of the age of twenty one years and I do hereby will and bequeath to my sons Abraham and Benjamin B. all that certain part of my farm ? ? on the west side of the said brook above mentioned in ? all the buildings on the said farm and also to my said sons Abraham and Benjamin B. I will and give all my personal property the condition of the above bequeath to my sons Abraham and Benjamin B. in that they shall pay to the said Peter P., Sally, and the heirs of Margaret the above mentioned bequeath of one dollar to each and also pay all the debts due against my estate and also in addition to the above bequest I do hereby will and bequeath to my son John P. the ? of one dollar and a certain note I hold against him for the ? of one hundred and sixty dollars and I do ? constitute and appoint John P. York, William York, and Andrew I ? executors to this my last will and testament in ? ? I have ? set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine signed sealed published and declared by the said ? as ???.
