Biography

Frances A York was born at Portland, Maine in 1844, the daughter of Sea Captain William R York and Rachel Turner.

The 1860 US census for Portland, Maine conducted 22 Aug 1860 lists George A Tucker, age 26, born in Maine and a mariner residing in the household of Rachel York (55), James York (26), a mariner, and Fannie A York (15), a student. A total of eight members of the household totaling eleven are boarders, some mariners and others are laborers.

She married twice:

  • Sea Captain George A Turner (1833-1864) married 18 Jan 1861 at Portland, Maine. They were the parents of one known child: Amelia Stanley Turner b. 19 Apr 1862 at Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
  • Sea Captain Harmon T Littlejohn married 19 May 1866 at Cape Elizabeth. They were the parents of six known children.

Frances died in 1909 at South Portland, Maine where she is buried at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Portland, Maine, Plot: G-34.

Notes

Her date of birth is calculated based on her death record which states at the time of death on 25 May 1909, Frances was sixty-four years, six months and thirteen days of age, calculating to 12 Dec 1844. Her death record also states she was born at Portland, Maine.
