Francis Clark Yorks was born in Almond, Allegany, New York in about 1849 to Mary Ann and Thomas F. Yorks. In 1850, the Yorks' household was comprised of Francis, his parents and older brother, James.
In 1860, Francis, age 12, was a resident of Hartsville, Steuben, New York with his parents and two younger sisters, Hephzibeth and Emma Jane. His father, Thomas, was a farmer.
Francis married Jane Betsey Henry in 1868 in Steuben County, New York. By 1870, they and their 1-year-old son, Amos, were living in Evart, Osceola, Michigan. His parents and two sisters had relocated to Michigan as well.
In 1880, Francis and Jane continued to be residents of Evart, where they raised their six children. Francis was a farmer. Jane's brother, Millard Henry, lived in their home.
Francis and his family ventured to the Dakota Territory in 1886. His eldest son, Amos, died there later that year of scarlet fever. Francis died in Henry, Codington, (South) Dakota on January 15, 1887 of typhoid fever.
