Biography

Johannes was born on 4 April 1747 in Limerick Tp, Montgomery Co, PA. He was the son of Johann Philip Yost and Veronica (Dotterer) Yost.[1]

Johannes was baptized on 9 April 1770 in New Goshenhoppen Reformed Church, Pennsburg, Upper Hanover Tp, Montgomery Co, PA.

Johannes died at the age of 72 on 13 July 1819 in Pottsgrove Tp, Montgomery Co, PA.[2]

Johannes was buried after 13 July 1819 in Reformed & Lutheran Church, Pottstown PA. Note: Rev. Frederick Herman.

  • On an unknown date Johannes was employed as a Carpenter.
  • Religion: in Reformed.


Alt b. Chester Co PA, per 1887 hist of Columbia Co biog. Bapt as adult by Rev. Johs Theobold Faber, per Hinke p. 318. Abt 1770 he m. a Mollie KRAUSE of Limerick Tp. and had 5 or 6 children before she died: Henry (1775-1862, moved to Columbia Co, father of Samuel b. 1805), Philip, Samuel, Elisabeth, Maria called Polly, and perhaps Rachel b. 12.29.1796. Then he m. 23 July 1798 [1793?] by Rev. Frederick Dalliker at Falkner Swamp Reformed Ch (p.218 transcr. by Hinke) Anna Maria SEIBEL b. 19 June 1766, d. Sept 1822, buried at Reformed & Luth Ch in Pottstown PA, dau of Valentine & Catharine SEIPEL.

Johannes & Anna Maria had perhaps Rachel b. 29 Dec 1796, Johannes b. 20 Aug 1799, Sarah, Jacob S. b. 19 July 1801, Catherine.

John YOST is not listed in Montgomery County tax returns until 1780 when he was assessed £16.17.6 for effective supplies on a valuation of £750.0.0. (PA: 3: 15: 515). Since he was 33 years old that year, it is possible that he had been living with his parents previously or that he had been residing in another county.

9 July1785 bought land in Londonderry Tp, Chester Co, part of Springhill tract.
