Biography

She was living in Thannington, Canterbury when she married William Hatch (a woolen draper aged about 25), son of William Hatch and Ann Tilden, on 9 July 1624 at Canterbury, Kent, England.[1][2]

Immigration

William Hatch, his wife Jane, and their English born children immigrated in 1635. On 17 March 1634/5, William Hatch, of Sandwich, merchant & Jane his wife with children Walter, John and William, Anne and Jane, together with five servants, William Holmes, "Joseph Ketchrell", "Simon Ketcrell," Simony Sutton and Lidia Wells were enrolled for passage by a certificate of conformity from Mr. Thomas Gardner, Vicar of St. Maries in Sandwich.[3]

At Plymouth Colony

From Early Families of Scituate [4]:

... On 12 June 1635, Hatch was granted a five acre lot on the south side of Greenfield Lane “buting with east end upon the way called Kente streeate.” It was bounded on the north by Greenfield Lane, on the south by Samuel Hinckley’s lot.

The description of his lot matches Scituate records of the location of their house that they built on Kent Street.

Research Notes

Were her parents Edward and Susanne?

  • Jane was originally listed as being the daughter of Edward Young. This is due to the mention in marriage records of "bondsman Edward Young of Thannington". That Edward Young was also listed as being married to Susanne Corbet who is actually recorded as having married William Young of Kenton.
  • It is Jane's parentage that is still in question and more documentation is necessary to connect her to Susanne Corbet as her mother or either Edward or William Young as father.
  • Jane Young was christened on 31 December 1593 at Tenterdon, Kent, England, based in information with parent of Edward Young, but reliable sourcing is needed. [citation needed]
  • Research is ongoing and in the meantime, the connection to Susanne Corbet as mother and Edward Younge has been severed.

Were her parents Job and Sarah? Possible parents are Job and Sarah Austin, but no sources found yet. See Genealogy Online page for Jane Young 1596-1653; web content, Genealogieonline.nl,
