Biography

On Sept. 14, 1829, John Archibald was born in Peel County, Ontario.

On Dec. 6, 1853, John married Margaret McIntyre and lived in Bentinck Twp., Grey County, Ont. Margaret was born about 1834 to Archibald McIntyre and Margaret Campell.

On July 4, 1856, Donald was born in Bentinck Twp. About 1875, Donald married Ann Jane Fernell in Grey County. In 1883, they were living in Manitoba. They had nine children. Sometime after 1911, Ann died. On April 19, 1922, Donald died of heart disease in Flesherton, Ontario.

On Feb. 16, 1858, Kezia (female) was born. On March 20, 1862, Kezia died and was buried in St. George’s Cemetery, Hanover, Ontario.

On March 2, 1860, James was born in Bentinck Twp. On April 11, 1879, James died of tuberculosis in Greenock Twp., Bruce County, Ontario and was buried in Paisley.

The 1861 Census, Bentinck Twp., Grey County, recorded John, 31, a farmer, Margaret, 26, Donald, 6, Kazen, 4, female, James, 1, and Ann McIntyre, 14, all born in Ontario, religion EM, and living in a one-story log house.

On March 22, 1862, John William was born in Bentinck Twp. On Nov. 22, 1890, John married Lucy Deforge in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lucy was born in September, 1871. They had six children born in Neche Twp., North Dakota. On April 10, 1928, John died of pneumonia in Wilkie, Saskatchewan.

On June 14, 1864, John Archibald was born in Bentinck Twp. On July 1, 1892 Archie married Martha M. Messecar in Emerson, Mantoba. Martha was born on Nov. 1, 1876 in Waterford, Ontario. They had eight children, one of whom was Priscilla Young’s father, Howard Young of Surrey, B.C. On June 15, 1923, Archie was struck and killed by a train in St. Alprege, Saskatchewan and was buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current. He had been a railway worker.

On Oct. 10, 1866, Joseph was born in Bentinck Twp. He was recorded in census records as Josiah.

On Oct. 17, 1869 (Reg. 2175), Margaret Ann was born in Bentinck Twp. Her father was a farmer on Con. 3, Lot 15 SDR. On Dec. 22, 1891, Margaret married Henry George Roberts in Brandon, Manitoba. Henry was born on Feb. 15, 1859 in Calne, Wiltshire, England. They had six children born in Oakland, Manitoba. On June 11, 1930, Henry died of dropsy in Brandon and was buried in Minnewawa Cemetery. On March 11, 1945, Margaret died in Brandon and was buried with Henry.

The 1871 Census, Bentinck Twp., Grey County, page 33, recorded John Young, 39, a farmer, Margate, 37, Donald, 15, James 11, John, 8, Archibald, 6, Josiah, 4, and Margate A., 1. All were born in Ontario, C. Presbyterian, and Scotch. The agricultural census was not searched.

On May 31, 1872 (Reg. 7198), Viney was born in Bentinck Twp. Her father was a farmer on Con. 3, Lot 13 SDR. On Dec. 8, 1897, Viney married Arthur Clendenning in Brandon, Manitoba. Arthur was born in 1859 in County Cavan, Ireland. They had three children. In 1910, Viney died of tuberculosis and was buried in Minnewawa Cemetery. On Sept. 20, 1936, Arthur died in Manitoba and was buried with Viney.

The 1881 Census, Greenock, Bruce South, pages 59-60, recorded John Young, 50, a farmer, Margret, 41, John, 19, a farmer, Archibald, 17, a farmer, Josiah, 14, Margret A., 11, and Vinia, 8. All were born in Ontario, Methodist, and Scotch.

On June 17, 1895, John died at 65 in Nesbitt, Oakland, Manitoba. He was buried in Minnewawa Cemetery in Oakland, Manitoba.

On July 22, 1895, Margaret died in Nesbitt, Manitoba and was buried with John.
