Research Notes

  • James' middle name of Foot (his mother's maiden name) has also been mis-transcribed as Fook in the 1851 census.
  • No baptism records were identified for James Foot Young from Dorset Online Parish Clerks records for Okeford Fitzpaine, or for Sturminster Newton (his sister Mary Foot Young was christened in Sturminster Newton in 1846) [21] or in FamilySearch.
  • No children from the marriage to Anne could be identified.
  • There are two James Young's that married an Ann (or Anne) Bennett. One was born in and lived in Sturminster Newton, Dorset and the other was born in Okeford Fitzpaine, Dorset just 3.5 miles away. There are many family trees on Ancestry, FMP and Geni that confuse the two.
  • For reference and comparison the 'other' James Young was born in May 1839 in Sturminster Newton. He married Martha Penney (1836 - 1863) with no issue. He re-married Anne Belbin Bennett (1834 - 1913) also with no found issue. James and Anne lived and died in Sturminster Newton as did his first wife Martha.
  • There is also a Richard Young than married an Ann Bennett in Sturminster Newton around the same time. This person again is different and not the same as the James Foot Young. There are a large number of other James Young's born in Dorset at around the same time.
  • There are many other James Youngs of a similar age most of whom lived and died in Dorset.
  • The two trees are provided as public trees on Ancestry as: Young Family Tree (1) and Young Family Tree (2).
