Biography

SUMMARY

Alfred was a plasterer, bricklayer & farmer who lived in Waterloo, Quebec his entire life. He was the son of George Young and Orcelia Johnson. He had 4 sisters and 1 brother. He married Catherine Sutherland and they had 5 children.

Alfred was born on February 26, 1874 in the village of Waterloo, Shefford, Quebec, Canada.

In the 1881 census Alfred (age 7) lived with his parents, George and Celia Young and 5 siblings in Waterloo. His father was a plasterer.^[1]

In 1886 Alfred's oldest sister, Emily, died at 22 years old.

In the 1891 census Alfred (age 19) was still single and lived with his parents, George (a farmer) and Orcelia Young, along with 3 of his siblings in Waterloo Village.^[2]

On December 17, 1900 Alfred married Catherine Sutherland at the Methodist church in Shefford West, Quebec. Alfred, the child of George Young & Orcelia (incorrectly transcribed as Archid) Johnson, resided in Waterloo village, while Catherine, the daughter of James Sutherland and Catherine Budge, resided in Fulford, in Brome County. Fulford is less than 10 km away from Waterloo.^[3]

In 1901 census Alfred (age 27), a mason, was the married head of household in the town of Waterloo, Shefford, Quebec. He lived with his wife, Catherine. He was a mason.^[4]

By 1911 Alfred (age 37), a mason, lived with his wife, 2 children and 3 lodgers (two of whom were his wife's younger brothers), in Waterloo, Quebec.^[5]

In the 1921 census Alfred (age 47), was a Mason and Farmer. He live with his wife and 5 children at 88 Court St, (Waterloo) Shefford, Quebec, Canada.^[6]

Alfred died in Montreal on 27 June 1929 at the age of 55. He was buried in Waterloo Cemetery, Waterloo, Monteregie Region, Quebec.^[7]
