Betty Young was christened on 29 Jul 1804 at Farnworth Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. She was the daughter of William and Mary Young. The family's address was recorded as Ditton.

Betty married James Clarke on 1 Jul 1827 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot. Both were of the local parish, and neither had been married before. James was a watchmaker. The witnesses were Ellen Beesley and Daniel Large.

Their son Henry was christened on 2 Sep 1827 at Prescot St Mary's. His father's occupation was recorded as watch maker, and the family's address as Eccleston.

Their son William was christened on 31 Aug 1828 at Prescot St Mary's. His father's occupation was recorded as watch maker, and the family's address as Eccleston.

Their daughter Mary was christened on 12 May 1830 at Prescot St Mary's. Her father's occupation was recorded as watch maker, and the family's address as Eccleston.

James died in 1832, aged 34; he was buried on 14 Mar 1832 at Prescot St Mary's. His address was recorded as Eccleston.

Their daughter Rachel was christened on 27 Jun 1832 at Prescot St Mary's. Her father's occupation was recorded as watch maker, and the family's address as Eccleston. The christening record states that she was a posthumous child.

Their daughter Mary died in 1840, aged 9; she was buried on 10 Jan 1840 at Prescot St Mary's. Her address was recorded as Eccleston.

By June 6th 1841, Betty and her son William and daughter Rachel were living in Yew Tree Place, Eccleston with Betty's father William Young, who was a journeyman watch maker. Rachel is misrecorded in the census as Richard (no other record of such a Richard Clarke has been found).

By March 30th 1851, Betty was living on her own in Eccleston, and working as a bread baker. Her daughter Rachel was working as a servant in Widnes.
