Catherine Young was born to Daniel Charles Young and Maria Charlotte Kerr about 1852 in the Colony of Victoria, now the State of Victoria, Australia.[1]

Catherine Young married Charles James in 1877 in the Colony of Victoria.[2]

Madeline Isabella Ethel James b 1884[8][9] [Note: The birth was registered in the district of Bairnsdale but took place at the family home 'Ridgeway'.];
The James family lived at a house called 'Ridgeway', overlooking Duck arm, lake Victoria, Gippsland Lakes in Victoria, Australia.[15] Currently there is a road called 'Ridgeway Lane' that leads from Birrells Rd on the Banksia Peninsula to Picnic Bay, a tributary of Duck Bay, which, in turn, opens onto Lake Victoria.
