John B Young was born about 1798 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. His parents were James Young and Lucy Fearn.
John married Frances K. Bidgood on 30 November 1826 in Isle of Wight, Virginia.[1]
In the 1830 census John's household was in Isle of Wight, Virginia, containing 1 male 30-39 (John), 1 male 10-14, 1 female 30-39 (Frances), 2 females 20-29, and 1 female 15-19. One free male colored person 24-35 and 12 slaves were also in the household. [2]
John died in Dec 1834, only a bit after Mechum Fearn. His will was executed on 19 March 1834 and presented in probate on 5 January 1835. [3]
In the 1840 census the household of Frances, John's widow, was in Isle of Wight, Virginia, containing 1 female 30-39 (Frances), 2 females 20-29, and 1 male 15-19. Also, 7 slaves were in the household . [4]
In the 1830 US Census of Isle of Wight County, the houshold of John B Young included 12 slaves.
In the 1840 US Census of Isle of Wight County, the household of John's widow included 12 slaves.
John's will, dated 19 Mar 1834, gives a plantation name “Oyster Shell Neck” and a list of 5 negro slaves: Wallis, Ned, Peter, Sylvia, and her child John. There is no mention of Mechum’s slaves, unless "Ned" above refers to Ned Parker.

included 1 free colored person, male, age 24 - 35.
