Life of Lyda Cypert
I was born November 18, 1821, on Stone River, Rutherford County, near Murfreesboro. My maiden anem was Lyda Youngblood. My father moved to Indian Creek, Wyne County, when I was seven years old, at which place I have lived ever since. I married James H Horton February 14, 1839. I am the mother of 9 children, three living. My husband and two sons died in the war. My husband and one sone fought on the Confederate, and one son on the Union side. The last named son joined Shipman's company at Clifton and died at Nashville. I have had twenty-one great grandchildren, six of whom are dead. One of them died in the Spanish-American war. I have 24 grandchildren. In 1844 I became a charter member of the Indian Creek Baptist church organized in the Indian Creek Association. My husband died in 1863, as before stated, and in 1872 I married Jasper Cypert. He is now dead. (You all know uncle JAsper). My hearing and eyesight are good for one of my age. My general health is excellent. I have never had a physician to call on me in my lifetime. Neither have I ever taken a prescription from a doctor, and I am eighty-three. Who can say as much? I am living with my son Z J Horton. My postoffice is Waynesboro, Tenn, RFD No 2. (Clifton Mirror - 1905 - Wayne COunty Historian Collection)
