1860 Caddo Parish, Louisiana, USA.
1870 Hemphill, Sabine, Texas, USA.
1880 Sabine County, Texas, USA.
Sarah Jane Youngblood was sometimes called "Sallie". She was born a few months after her father's death. She was born into an affluent family, and was described as a fine lady who was "highly educated" in Mobile, Alabama, by the standards of that day. She likely attended a 'female seminary' there. Most women did not receive a formal education at that time, and if they did attend school, it was separate from the male students.
MARRIAGE AND WIDOWHOOD - She was widowed at a young age with three small children, when her husband died during the Civil War. Sallie also lost two brothers during the conflict. Sallie moved from Louisiana, with her two surviving children, to Texas in 1869. Some of the records concerning the Peace children refer to Michael Youngblood as uncle, and this is further proof that Sarah Jane was daughter of Henry & Sarah Youngblood. After Henry Theophilus Peace died in the Civil War, Sarah Jane remarried twice. She married a second time to someone named Draughorn (Drawhorn). He had tuberculosis and died from it, and she contracted it from him. Her third marriage was to Judge Joshua M. H. Speights, who was 20 years older. He was a prominent citizen and merchant of Sabine County, Texas. He was very important in early Sabine Co. history, founding, together with Hampton Pratt, the first store in Hemphill. He also served as Chief Justice of Sabine County, and as Senator in the Texas Legislature.

DEATH - Sallie died about 1890 at the age of 49 from tuberculosis in Sabine County, and was probably buried in the Speights Cemetery. Many members of her Youngblood family were buried in the Hemphill Cemetery.
PROOF OF LINE: Mentioned in her deed from her mother (don't have copy, only transcription), guardianship
