Biography

John Younger was born about 1749, presumably in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, where his father was at the time, and died after 1806 in an unknown location.

Deeds

1 Jan 1787 Witnessed a deed from Joseph Stevens and wife Rachel to William Harper of Sampson County for 240 acres. Attest: James Younger and John Younger. Proved in open court May Session 1788 by oath of James Younger. [2]

5 Jan 1791 Thomas Younger & John Younger witness a deed from Rhody Marsh to John McCausland for 120 acres. [3]

11 Aug 1792 Martha, Richard and John Nall to John Younger all of Chatham County, 200 acres - tract of land whereon John Younger lives situate and lying on the south side of Bear Creek, beginning at the corner of ---- Nalls deeded land and south of Raccoon Ford, on the road leading from Martha Nalls to Richard Nalls, then to John Poe's former line, now Richard Nalls. Witnesses: Nathaniel Powell and James Younger. [4]

13 Aug 1792 Sworn onto a Grand Jury. [5]

2 Feb 1803 John Younger to Moses Myrick for 50 pounds 100 acres on Indian Creek. Signed: John Younger. Test: Samuel David, John Stinson, Thomas Younger, John M(?). Feb Session 1807 Proved in open court by the oath of Thomas Younger. [6]

Nov 1803 A writ against John Younger was delivered to the sheriff of Chatham County, James Howard, who siezed about 350 acres on Indian Creek and sold it at an auction held in Pittsboro in February 1804 to Abraham Harper. The final disposition of this land was proved in open court in Chatham County during November Session 1823.[7]

10 Nov 1805 John Younger's land sold by sheriff's sale to Isaiah Bagley. Sheriff: George Gee. Confirmed in open court November Session 1806. [8]

22 Mar 1806 Thomas Younger to Nathan Stedman for $1,200 two parcels of land, 300 acres conveyed from James Younger, dec'd. to Thomas Younger. The other tract is the land on which John Younger formerly lived, 200 acres conveyed from John Younger to Thomas Younger. Signed: Thomas Younger Witness: German Guthrie, N. Stedman. Aug Session 1806. Acknowledged in open court and ordered to be registered.[9]

DEED: Chatham County NC Land Entries 1778-1790 #1078 (4) 20 Dec 1785 John Younger enters 150 acres on the head of Pigg's Branch; border his own line and runs "round", issued.

COURT: Chatham County NC May Session 1792 John Nall appointed overseer of the road in the room of John Younger from Bear Creek to Indian Creek. [11]

COURT: Chatham County NC 14 May 1792 Jurors: John and Thomas Younger among 30 names summoned to attend court [12]

COURT: Chatham County, NC - Petition - Younger, Rebecca and husband John Nov-Dec 1809, Box 3: folder "petitions-Divorces-etc" Her husband, John Younger had left her in 1804 in a helpless and defenseless situation with five children to support and maintain. Prays for an act to entitle her to property as she may hereafer accumulate and acquire and to what she has already acquired. Subscribed to by seventeen supporters circa Nov. 1809.

The committee to whom was referred the petition of Younger, Rebecca are of the opinion that the clemency of the Legislature ought to be extended to (her) and recommend the accompanying bill to be passed into law. Nov-Dec 1809, Box 2, folder "JCR -Divorce and Alimony Emancipation" 21 Dec 1809 To secure to persons therein mentioned such property as they may hereafter acquire, Younger, Rebecca, wife of John Younger of Chatham County...Read 3rd time by House and Senate and ordered to be engrossed. Friday, Nov 24 "Mr. Kennon presented the petition of Rebecca Younger, praying to have certain property secured to her." [13]
