Notables Project
Timi (Yuro) Selnick is Notable.

An American singer-songwriter considered to be one of the 1st blue-eyed soul stylists of the rock era who began her career with Hurt which reached the Top 10 in 1961 and it remained her signature song. Though recorded when she was barely out of her teens, she sang it with a strength and finesse that earned her a reputation as a soul powerhouse.

Her songs had the sentimentality of teenage pop, but in her vocals she displayed the bluesy intensity of jazz singers such as Dinah Washington and Nancy Wilson and her hits I Apologize, For the Love of a Boy and What's a Matter Baby (Is It Hurting You) featured her husky alto rising to dramatic climaxes above gentle orchestral accompaniment. She was sometimes called the little girl with the big voice.

Rosemary Yuro was born August 4, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, United States, the daughter of Louis Yuro and Edith Giannini.

She claims her middle name of Timothea was due to her godfather, who was Irish. “Timi” came from her schoolmates calling her Timmy, and a friend feminizing it. She was also called “Ro-Ro” when she lived in northwest Chicago.

Around 1952, Rosemary, her parents and older brother Anthony moved to Los Angeles, California.

Her 1st marriage was as Rosemary Victoria Yuro to Andrew Carrano on July 4, 1957 at St Peter's Church in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California. She was 16 years old and her parents were Louis Domenic Yuro and Edith Giannini, all of them born in Illinois. Their residence at that time was 151 So. Kilkea Drive in the city of Los Angeles. Andrew was 21 years old, his parents were Dominic Carrano and Mary Liquori and all of them were born in Connecticut. Their residence at the time was 7605 Lexington Avenue in the city of Los Angeles. The witness to the marriage was the bride's brother Anthony Yuro, also of Kilkea Drive in Los Angeles.[1]

Her 2nd marriage was as Rosemary Timi Yuro to William Robert Selnick on October 17, 1969 in Las Vegas, Clark county, Nevada.[2]

Diagnosed with throat cancer in the 1980s, she died at the age of 63 on March 30, 2004 in Las Vegas, Clark county, Nevada and was survived by her husband, from whom she had separated, a daughter, 3 grandchildren and her brother Anthony.[3][4]
