Please read everything I have listed for this profile before e-mailing me with corrections. I've worked very hard on this particular profile, researching available records, and am fairly confident in my assertions. If you have found any errors, I will only discuss corrections if you have EVIDENCE, and I will not accept an online family tree as evidence. I will accept census records, marriage records, birth/death records, and possibly family bibles.
There seems to be a lot of debate as to whether the parents of this Albert Napoleon (or Napolin, depending on which tree you look at) was the descendant of Burrill Hamilton/Hamelton Zachary and Elizabeth Williams, or Bartlett Zachary and Sarah Kimbro.
See my notes below for details about Albert Napoleon Zachary and why I have connected Burrill and Elizabeth as his parents.
See also my profile for Albert Zachary, son of Bartlett Zachary and Sarah C. Kimbro.
Albert Napoleon Zachary was the son of Burrill Hamilton (or Hamelton) Zachary and Elizabeth Williams.
He served as a Confederate soldier during the Civil War, and held the rank of Private in the Arkansas Calvary, for Gordon's Battalion.
He married Louisa Frazier February 5, 1866, in Russelville, Pope County, Arkansas. She may have been the mother of all or none of his children, depending on which online family trees you find (see notes below).
He may have married a woman by the name of Patsy Jane Young after the death of Louisa Frazier (see notes below).
By the 1900 Census, he is living in the household of his son, William. He remained in William's household for the rest of his life. Though he is listed as married in the 1900 census, his wife is not listed in the household, and by the 1910 census, he is listed as widowed.
He passed away in 1932, and is buried in Lutie Cemetery, Wilburton, Latimer County, Oklahoma. Louisa is also buried in the same cemetery, however her profile on Find-a-grave has her name listed as Leola.
The biggest source of confusion about whether the parents of this Albert Napoleon Zachary were Burrill Hamilton (or Hamelton) Zachary and Elizabeth Williams, or Bartlett Zachary and Sarah C. Kimbro seems to be that there were in fact TWO Albert Zacharys, both born in Johnson County, Arkansas, in 1841 or 1842. It would stand to reason that the two families were somehow related, but I have yet to find a positive connection, since Burrill was from Tennessee, and Bartlett was from North Carolina.
Both Alberts appear in the households of their fathers in 1850, one family living in Horsehead, Johnson County, Arkansas, and the other living in Spadra, Johnson County, Arkansas. In this census, Burrill Zachary lists his birthplace as TENNESSEE, and his wife Elizabeth lists her birthplace as MISSOURI. However, Bartlett lists his birthplace as NORTH CAROLINA, and his wife Sarah lists her birthplace as TENNESSEE.
In no less than 4 census records (1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920), Albert Napoleon Zachary states that his father's birthplace is TENNESSEE, and his mother's birthplace is MISSISSIPPI. This would correlate more closely to his parents being Burrill H. Zachary and Elizabeth Williams, even though the mother's birthplace is listed as Mississippi and not Missouri. At no point does this Albert list his father and mother as being from North Carolina and Tennessee, respectively.
However, the most compelling reason I have that this Albert Zachary was descended from Burrill Zachary is that he named his first son Burrill and not Bartlett. Tenuous, I know, but this Albert never had any sons named Bartlett.
There also seems to be some confusion as to the identities of Albert's wives, and how many times he was married. Again, many people seem to be merging these two different men together into a single person, and simply giving him all the wives, plus an extra.
Sarah Tindell is often listed as Albert's first wife. Some online trees also list her as being the mother of his first three children, Burrell, John, and William. There is definitely a record of an Albert Zachary marrying Sarah Tindell on March 16, 1864 in Franklin, Johnson County, Arkansas. However, there are no parents listed on the marriage record, and the couple was married in Johnson County, so it is impossible to tell which Albert Sarah actually married, as I have not found the couple in any other records yet.
However, this would not properly correlate to Sarah being the mother of Albert's first two sons, as they were born in November 12, 1860 and July 8,1864, respectively (unless Burrill was born out of wedlock, and the bride walked down the aisle 6 months pregnant with John - Though it is not impossible, it does seem very unlikely, given the time). Sarah Tindall remarries in 1873 to a man named Samuel Sidney Black, they have six children together and she dies in Tennessee in 1930. If Sarah married my Albert Napoleon Zachary, this would insinuate that they divorced less than 2 years after marriage. Though divorce was not unheard of during the Civil War era, it still seems highly suspect. It seems a lot more likely that Sarah was actually married to the other Albert Zachary, son of Bartlett.
There is also a record of an Albert Zachary marrying Louisa Frazier February 5, 1866 in Russelville, Pope County, Arkansas. Louisa was definitely Albert Napoleon Zachary's wife, as they are listed together on the census until her death, after which Albert went to live with his son William C. The fact that Albert is definitely married to Louisa in 1866 makes it highly unlikely that either Sarah or Louisa is the mother of sons Burrill and John, and also unlikely that Louisa is William's mother. Louisa is said in several places to have been "full-blooded Chocktaw Indian", but there does not seem to be any actual sources to back that up. Louisa is also listed as "white" on every single census record I've found her in. Some online trees state explicitly that Louisa is not the mother of any of Albert's children, but I have not found evidence whether this is true or not.
Many online trees list Albert as being married to Patsy Jane Young after the death of Louisa Frazier. However, I have yet to find an actual marriage record for this couple, though it is likely that Albert did marry again after the death of Louisa, considering the ages of his youngest children.
Ridiculously enough, some online trees actually link this Albert Napoleon Zachary as being married to Mary Belle Decker. Of course, this is due to a lot of sloppy work on someone's part (or multiple someones), as not only is Albert listed as widowed in both the 1910 and 1920 census (where he was enum. as living with son William C.), but Mary Belle was married to Albert's grandson, also named Albert Napoleon Zachary in 1906. All profiles have said census records cited in the source section to back up my assertions.
It seems highly likely, presented the evidence, that Albert Napoleon Zachary was married before Louisa Frazier, though that wife's identity is unknown. This unknown wife is the likely mother of Burrill, John, and William. It is also highly likely that Louisa is, in fact, the mother of at least one of Albert Napoleon Zachry's children, son Wesley (born 1870). Though I have not found any concrete evidence to the marriage, I am not contesting online trees stating he was married to Patsy Jane Young, and that she was the mother of subsequent children, Reese (born about 1884) Jessie (born about 1896), and Lucille (born 1897).
It also seems highly likely, presented the evidence, that Albert Zachary, son of Bartlett, was the husband of Sarah Tindall. Whether or not they had children, I have not found any evidence one way or the other. However, it seems also likely that Albert, son of Bartlett, died either in the late 1860s or early 1870s, leaving Sarah a widow, to remarry Samuel Sidney Black in 1873.
An interesting, if unrelated note: In the book Arkansas Reports: Cases Determined in the Supreme Court of Arkansas, Volumes 17-18, both Burrill and Bartlett Zachary are named as witnesses in a case involving what appears to be the fraudulent double-sale of slaves by Thomas Thurmond to both his mother and a neighbor, Burrill having been the witness of one sale, and Bartlett having been the witness of another.
