FINAL RITES FOR JOS. ZAHRADNIK, 92, HELD FRIDAY

Funeral services of Joseph Zahradnik, 92, were held from Hubbard Funeral Home and St. Michael’s Church Friday morning, Msgr. Anthony Drozd officiating. Interment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Mr. Zahradnik, a retired farmer who was living in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Will W. Walchar, died Wednesday after an illness of four days.

Born Nov. 8, 1855, in Bohemia, Austria, he was the son of Evan and Marie Zahradnik. He came to this country with his parents in 1870, who landed at Galveston and went to Cat Spring, Austin County to make their first home in America. Later they moved to Moravia and then to Hallettsville. In 1891, Mr. Zahradnik became a naturalized citizen of this country. In 1904 he moved to the Weimar area and married Mrs. Agnes Peter. For the past 45 years he had lived in this vicinity. His wife preceded him in death Dec. 18, 1940.

Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Will W. Walchar; three step-daughters, Mrs. J. Vasek, Richmond, Mrs. A. V. Gadbois and Mrs. F. J. Herzik of Houston; and two step-sons, John Peter, Sr., of Weimar and Frank Peter of Taiton, Texas. Twenty grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Pallbearers were his grandsons; George and Willie Walchar, Johnnie, Emil and Joe Peter, all of Weimar; and Alfred Gadbois of Houston. Weimar Mercury, March 18, 1949, page 1
