Gordon was born in 1930 in Nisku, Alberta, Canada.[1] He was married to Eileen for 63 years, with whom he had four children: David, Ronald, Brian, and Charlene.[1] He passed away in 2019.[1]
In the 1990s, Gordon completed the meticulously researched family history "The Descendants of Martin Lechelt". In this study, he focused on the two generations descending from Martin, drawing on interviews with living descendants, published family histories and available documents. Gordon's work has been highly influential in the early documentation of the Lechelt family at WikiTree.

Obituary. Gordon William Zelt. August 22, 1930 - November 24, 2019. With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Gordon William Zelt on Nov. 24, 2019 at age 89. He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, of 63 years, his four children (David, Ronald, Brian, Charlene), 13 grandchildren and brother, Harold. Gordon was born in Nisku, AB on Aug. 22, 1930. He graduated from UBC Engineering in 1953 and worked for Imperial Oil Ltd. for 33 years moving between Sarnia, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton before finally retiring in White Rock. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. A service for Gordon will be held at St. John's Presbyterian Church Nov. 30 at 1 pm.[1]
Gordon William Zelt was the third son of Emilie (Lechelt) & Adolph Zelt, and a grandson of Wilhelm Lechelt.[2]
