Peter was born on 29 July 1737 in Meiringen, Oberhasli, Bern, Switzerland. He was the son of Peter Zenger and Anna Bannholzer.^[1]

When Peter was 25 he married Elsbeth Michel on 17 February 1763 in Meiringen, Oberhasli, Bern, Switzerland.^[2]
