Anna Katharina Zerber was born about 1770 to parents Konrad Zerber and Maria (Eberhard) Zerber. The Zerbers were not listed in the 1767 or 1775 Grimm censuses and were most likely from another village. She first appears in the 1798 census, after her marriage to Wilhelm Groh, but still living with her parents and younger sister. This is most likely due to Konrad and Maria Zerber having no male children to help with their farming. After the death of the senior Zerbers, the farm would have passed to Wilhelm Groh through his wife Anna Katharina .
