Marriage 13 Aug 1726 in König. Shoemaker Johann Jacob Zettelmeyer (son of the deceased Georg Zettelmeyer from Dorf Erbach) with Anna Margaretha Barbara (daughter of the deceased miller Johannes Eichelbauer from König).[1]
Place: St. Paul's Church, Windsor Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania
Note
Note: Jacob was raised as a Lutheran. Apparently, after his father's death, his mother took the family to Bad Koenig and raised the children as Lutherans.
He was a master shoemaker, according to his marriage record.
He and Anna may have had other children prior to 1735.
Jacob and his family left Germany in 1751, arriving in Philadelphia aboard the Neptune on September 24, 1751. Jeri Richards, in her 2000 article on the Southern Illinois branch, says that Jacob was accompanied to Philadelphia by Georg Zettelmeyer, relationship unknown. Georg settled in Lancaster County. Georg is probably Jacob's son.
Jacob's will was dated December 22, 1774, and probated in Berks County, February 4, 1775. It mentions widow (Anna) Margaretha Barbara. Son George Adam received Jacob's dwelling, with 212 acres, but he was to support his mother and pay 70 pounds to his brothers and sisters. Son Jacob had received 100 acres for 30 pounds. Son John George received 22 pounds, sons Martin and Godfrey, 20 pounds, and daughter Elisabetha 20 pounds. Anna Maria Sebolt received one English shilling. Witnesses were Heinrich Bolander and Martin Rousch. The widow was executrix.
His tombstone reads:
HI RUET IACOB
ZETELMEIER
D V OC 1775
Some have interpreted the last line to mean "died October 5, 1775," but this is inconsistent with the appearance of witnesses to his will in court on January 20, 1775.
Another family of the same or a similar surname is that of Hans Jurg and Margareth Seidelmeyer, who came to America in 1754 and whose children included a Jacob and an Adam who lived in Albany County, New York.
Johann Jacob was born in 1706. He passed away in 1775.
