Ione Alred, 87, of Baxter, died on November 1st, 2011 at Diamond Willow. A “Celebration of Life” Gathering will be held at the Brainerd VFW on Monday, November 14th from 2 to 4 p.m. A private family burial, with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating, will be at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery, Little Falls.
Ione Margaret Alred was born to George and Lois (Murphy) Ziemer on April 27, 1924 in Ceylon, MN. She grew up in Wykoff, MN. While attending Winona State College, Ione enlisted in the Navy, servicing as a Wave, during WW II .
After three days of courtship, she was united in marriage to Harold Alred on March 20th, 1945 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Ione enjoyed bridge club, gardening, antiquing, flea markets and fishing.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold; sons, Michael (Diane) Alred of Baldwin WI, and Bryan (Dorothy) Alred of Pineville, WI; sister, Barbara (Wendell) Stender of Wykoff, MN; beloved special friends Roger and Betsy Johnson of TN; 7 grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert, and daughter, Barbara Jo.
