Obituary from ‘The Leader’ Date of Paper: 22/08/1935 Headings: Death of Mrs Handke, Greenock Report: Mrs. Johanne Auguste Lydia Handke (nee Zilm), 79, of Greenock, died suddenly at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. Kalleske, on Sunday. She was born at Greenock on August 27, 1856, and grew up in that centre; being confirmed at Nain by the late Pastor J. C. Auricht, who also officiated at her marriage there to Mr. Carl Friedrich Handke, who predeceased her by about six years. The couple lived for a time at Lyndoch and then at Greenock; Mr. Handke following his trade as blacksmith. During recent years deceased was cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Kalleske. Two sons died in infancy, and five sons and three daughters survive. They are Messrs. Fred (Ceduna), Albert and Walter (Freeling), Oscar (Tanunda), and Ewald (Greenock); Mrs. C. Evans (Kapunda), Mrs. J. Waters (Broken Hill) and Mrs. G. Kalleske (Greenock). There are 31 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral took place in Greenock cemetery on Tuesday, Rev. J. H. S. Heidenreich officiating at the graveside. A beautiful collection of floral tributes was in evidence. The bearers were Messrs. T. Kernich, H. Koch, F. Laucke, J. Jungfer and O. and H. Semmler.
