MRS. MURL L. SMITH DEFIANCE Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Satur day at the Pauley Home for Funerals in Harlan for Mrs Murl (Viola) L. Smith, 61 De fiance, who died Wednesday November 28, at the Manning General Hospital. The Rev George W. McMullen, pastor of the Defiance Methodis :hurch, officiated. Pallbearers were Neil Miller, Alfred Book, Don Schaben, Iharles Coenen, James Tryon Jr. and Kenneth Interment was in Township cemetery in Defiance. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 10, 1911, in Grand Rapids, Minn. At the age of five, she moved to Irwin and lived with her grandparents, James Vest. Mr. She and Mrs. graduated Daily Record from the Irwin high school. On March 9, 1935, she married Murl Smith in Griswold. The couple moved to Defiance, lived until their is survived by where they deaths. Mrs. Smith her father, BiH Newton, Grand Rapids-, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Mildred) Gehlsen, Carroll, and Mrs. John (Marjorie) Benge, West Point, Neb.; two sons, Marvin, Council Bluffs, and 1 Robert, Harlan; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 14, 1969, and one brother, Jimmy.
