Biography

Marlin was born in Halifax Township, Sept. 15, 1922, son of Clair and Mahala (Burrell) Zimmerman. He attended Pennsylvania State University where he received a B.S. in Agriculture Education. While at Penn. State, Marlin inlisted in the Army. He married Winifred Ellen Spahr who was born May 27th 1922 in Halifax Pa., the daughter of Lester Spahr and Olive Koppenheffer, on August 14th, 1943 at Pennsylvania State. After graduation from Penn State, they moved to Fort Benning, Ga. Son, Gary Lee, was born Dec. 17th. 1944. Winifred and son, Gary returned to Halifax when Marlin was overseas. Marlin served in the Army during World War II, as a 2nd Lt with the 4th Infantry Regiment and later as a 1st Lt with the 3rd. Inf. Regiment. After the war, they returned to Pennsylvania State University where he received his M.S. in Agriculture Education. In Sept. 1946 they moved to New Bloomfield where Marlin taught Agriculture Education for ten years at the Perry Joint High School in New Bloomfield. During which time Suzanne (NMN) was born ( April 03, 1947 ) and Mark Spahr Zimmerman was born ( April 19, 1949 ). In Sept. 1956 the family moved to Halifax where Marlin took a possition as High school Principal in the Halifax School District. Winifred taught Phys Ed. in the Millersburg School District. Marlin became Supt. of Schools in 1967 and retired in 1997. Winifred taught until 1981 when she also retired.

He passed away in 2013.
