Biography

Notables Project
Jeanne (Zimmermann) Wertz is Notable.

Rosalie Jeanne Zimmermann Wertz was born in April of 1870 in Paris, France to Charles Antoine and Catherine Augustine Zimmermann.[1][2] She was an outstanding designer, seamstress and dressmaker in Paris where customers were opera singers and other notables. While living in Paris, she met her husband Jacques Wertz and they were married on 13 Sep 1891.[3] The following year, on 15 Oct 1892, the first of their two children, Yvonne Albertini Louise Wertz, was born. [4][5]

Her husband Jacques was a very respected textile designer in Paris who came to America in 1901[2] when he was offered work in the textile industry in New York City. His office was on Broadway. Jeanne came to the United States with her husband with the understanding that they would return to Paris as soon as he made his fortune. Jeanne missed her beloved Paris. They immigrated to the United States on 5 Jul 1901 where they lived at 301 W. 114th St in New York City.[2][6] Their second child, Suzanne Claire Wertz, was born on 16 Jan 1906.[2][7][8]

Jacques and Jeanne lived in New York City for about ten years before moving to West Hoboken, NJ some time between May of 1910 and March of 1911.[1][2] It was in West Hoboken, New Jersey that their daughters Yvonne and Suzanne would meet their future husbands, Albert T Conord and Edward S Conord, sisters marrying brothers.

Just prior to Jacques reaching his goal, she died of pneumonia on 3 Oct 1911 in West Hoboken, New Jersey[9]. Jacques fulfilled his promise and took his wife back to France to be buried at St Ouen Cemetery just outside of Paris.[9]
