Biography

Johannes "John" Frederick Zinn was born about 1705 in Plonheim, Baden, Germany. He married Anna Sophia Schneider They emigrated to America with their infant son, Philip Jacob Zinn departing 22 June, 1738 aboard the Ship Glasgow from Cowes. The Zinn family arrived in Philadelphia on 9 September, eventually settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. John Frederick Zinn was one of the founders of Strayer's Lutheran Church in 1763. He died about 1770 and is buried in Strayer's Church Cemetery, Dover Twp., York Co. Pennsylvania.

He was one of the founders of the Salem Lutheran Church, now called Strayer's Reformed Church. 1750 Dover Township, York County, Pennsylvania.

"Johannes Friedrich Zinn, the immigrant ancestor, was born in the Palatine region of Germany in 1705; the identity of his parents is presently unknown. The exact location of his birth is unclear. Local York County sources list it as Plonheim, but this may be a misreading of an entry in the Salem Reformed Church Register regarding his wife, Anna Sophia Schneider, who was born there. That entry states that Anna Sophia married Johannes Zinn "aus Kederon in der Pfaltz."This probably means "from Kederon" and not "at Kederon," as some sources state. There is no such town in the Palatine, however. A 1761 entry in the Records of the Christ Lutheran Church of York County lists the marriage of Matthew Gansert to Catherine Zinn, daughter of "John Zinn from Holtzschwamm," so he may actually have come from there."[1]
