Biography

Helen Ziomkowski was born about November 1893 in Michigan, United States to Vincent Ziomkowski and Katarzyna Polega. In 1900, Helen lived with her parents and siblings in Walker Township, Kent County, Michigan, United States. [1]

In 1910, Helen was living in Grand Rapids Ward 9, Kent, Michigan, United States with her parents and siblings. [2]

Helen married Andrew Gaca, son of John Gaca and Macratcha Alieske, on 23 May 1916 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, United States. She was 21 and working as a box maker. He was 25 and working as an assembler. [3]

In 1920, Helen and Andrew were living in Grand Rapids Ward 1, Kent, Michigan, United States with their children, Lucille and Raymond. [4]

Helen's husband, Andrew, passed away unexpectedly on 10 January 1930 in an accident at the Plaster Mills where he worked. [5]

In 1930, Helen was living in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States where she was receiving in-patient treatment at Kalamazoo State Hospital. [6] Helen continued to receive in-patient treatment there in 1935 and 1940. [7]

Helen passed away on 18 January 1977 at Sherman Oaks Care Center in Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The cause of death was medullary failure with acute cerebral thrombosis and diabetes mellitus being contributing factors. Other significant conditions reported were acute urinary tract infection and schizophrenia. [8]

Helen's obituary reads: "Mrs. Helen Gaca, aged 79, formerly of 1344 Butterworth Street SW, widow of the late Andrew Gaca, passed away early Tuesday morning after an extended illness. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Felix (Lucille) Koltax of Morley, Michigan, Mrs. Joseph (Rose) Chlebana of Shelbyville, Michigan; two sons, Raymond of San Marguirita, California, Joseph of Grand Rapids, one sister, St. M. Bonaventure SSND of St. Adalbert's School, Grand Rapids; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Mrs. Gaca reposes at the Shawmut Hills Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive NW, where the Parish Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock. Friends may meet the family Tuesday evening 7 to 9, Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Arrangements by Chester L. Derezinski. [9]
